The film adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game has been circling Hollywood essentially ever since the book was published back in 1985. Warner Bros acquired the rights to the novel in 2002 and tried for years to make the film with director Wolfgang Petersen. Conflicts between Card and the studio abounded however as Card (who wrote the script) refused to budge throughout the creative process.
Commence nearly a decade worth of script rewrites and it is apparently time to give it a go once again. After the rights to the novel lapsed at Warner Brothers, the rising Summit Entertainment optioned the book with Gavin Hood attached to direct and produced by a group including Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman who are seemingly everywhere these days. The hope is for the film to enter into production early next year. Then again where have we heard that before?
