Girlcrush is nowhere to be found in mainstream, official, authoritative dictionaries. I’m perpetually afraid of what I’ll find lurking over at Urban Dictionary (see: The Commish’s reference to RBV), but the internet left me with no choice. According to Urban Dictionary, a girlcrush is defined as
feelings of admiration and adoration which a girl has for another girl, without wanting to shag said girl. A nonsexual attraction, usually based on veneration at some level.
This series has been percolating for awhile now, and what better way to start your Monday morning (although it’ll likely be Monday afternoon by the time I hit “publish”, but better late than never, right?) than with some pretty girls and potential fodder for your girl-girl fantasies.
We’ll start the series with Mariska Hargitay, who you can read all about on her Wikipedia page. She is the daughter of Hollywood legend Jayne Mansfield and Hungarian bodybuilder/actor Mickey Hargitay. Most of you know Mariska from her starring role on “Law & Order: SVU”, which is the only place I know her from, too. On “SVU”, she plays ass-kicking detective Olivia Benson, where she’s typically decked out in boring, trending-towards-masculine, no-nonsense clothes.
I don’t really know much about Mariska, as she rarely appears in the celebrity gossip rags and blogs that I totally don’t read ever, so maybe my girlcrush is more on the character she plays, but whatever. Until I hear otherwise, I’ll assume she’s just like Olivia – intelligent, calm under pressure, kind, tough when she needs to be, and can hang with the guys.
As far as her acting ability goes, I find her believable, and she’s been recognized for her work on “SVU”. Plus, she’s really nice to look at, which always helps with a girlcrush. She’s gorgeous. See?
It’s nice to see her out of her detective/SVU garb. On the show they keep her fairly plain and dressed down, which works for her character, but she’s made some really lovely appearances on the red carpet and other such things. Here’s a beautiful yellow dress she wore to some awards show.
And for final consideration, here she is with her baby, a milk mustache, and sporting some longer tresses. Adorable.
